Shahbudin ordered to take down Zahid article

KUALA LUMPUR - Popular Umno blogger Shahbudin Husin has been ordered to take down a blog article questioning deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s recent official visit to Indonesia, which coincided with his son’s wedding there.

Shahbudin, a political analyst, said he had complied after receiving an email from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, which regulates use of the Internet.

He said that he removed the article on Friday night. “I have taken it down from my blog after getting the email from MCMC,” he said, according to Malaysian Insider.

He has also been questioned by MCMC about the article and about his intentions in writing it. The Multimedia and Communications Act makes it an offence to publish indecent, obscene, false, menacing, or offensive materials to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person.

Shahbudin’s article had questioned the timing of the Zahid visit.

He said the commission had stated that Zahid had responded to Shahbudin’s concerns on Thursday with an official statement that he had not spent any money or used public funds on his son’s wedding reception.

MCMC said the statement had stated that the reception was held by the bride’s family upon learning that Zahid would be visiting Indonesia on Sept 18-21.
