"Only two months needed to oust Najib"

PUCHONG - Rebel Umno branch leaders who are forming a grassroots movement to oust party president Najib Razak have given warning not to take them lightly.

The party president could be brought down within only “one or two months”, said Mohd Shukor Mustaffa of Bandar Putri Umno at a press conference here yesterday at which they announced a grassroot coalition of branch leaders to demand Najib’s resignation.

Mohd Shukor said the movement was gaining more support. “There were only 34 branches involved at the beginning but now between 800 to 1,000 Umno branch leaders have joined us to ask for Najib’s resignation,” he said.

“It will take a few more months and we will prove that we have the power to bring him (Najib) down. If we have the power to elect him, we have the power to bring him down,” he said at the press conference, held at Kinrara Golf Resort.

The gathering follows separate announcements by Umno branch leaders in Sepang, Selangor; Teluk Kemang, Negri Sembilan; and Johor Baru in recent weeks.

Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman of Taman TKK branch in Negeri Sembilan said disciplinary notices sent earlier this week to nine leaders who were at the Port Dickson press conference showed that the Umno leadership were worried about the grassroot action taking place.
