Share murdered DPP's secrets with us, says IGP

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has asked Kevin Anthony Morais’ brother to provide the details contained in a pen drive on the investigations which the deputy public prosecutor was working on prior to his murder.

“I suggest he share the contents with us for action to be taken.

“We can’t act if we have no knowledge about the late Kevin’s secrets,” he told Malaysiakini.

The police chief also stated that refusing to disclose a criminal act amounted to an offence.

“If he (the brother) knows that a certain offence has been committed but refuses to disclose it, he commits an offence as well,” he added.

Asked if the police would record a statement from Charles Suresh Morais following his explosive allegations in a statutory declaration (SD), Khalid replied: “Yes, looks like we have to call him up.”

In the SD, the younger brother of Kevin claimed the pen drive was sent to him prior to the latter being killed.

“It is in safe custody in the US with someone who has instructions to release it publicly should anything untoward happen to me for swearing this statutory declaration.

“The contents of this pen drive clearly and unequivocally reveal the investigation Kevin had been tasked with just before his untimely death, which implicates certain personalities who currently walk the corridors of power in Malaysia,” he had said.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Charles was asked why he didn't turn in the pen drive as evidence to the police investigating Kevin's murder.

In response, however, he merely reiterated that the pen drive is in the US with instructions for its contents to be released if any untoward incident happens to him.

Asked what if the police demand for the pen drive, he replied, “The police can want a lot of things. I want to know who killed my brother.”

Body found in cemented drum

Charles, who has been living in the US since 1984, also claimed Kevin mentioned to him that he was working on a case involving Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

Furthermore, he alleged that Kevin’s initials were also on a purported charge sheet against the prime minister, released by whistleblower website Sarawak Report.

Previously, attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali had dismissed the charge sheet as fake.

Kevin, who was seconded to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), was reported missing on Sept 4 and was last seen leaving his apartment at Menara Duta in Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya in a Proton Perdana with the registration number WA6264Q.

His remains were found in a cemented drum at Persiaran Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur on Sept 16.

Six men, including an army doctor with the rank of colonel, have been charged with the murder as well as abetting the crime.

The initial post-mortem had stated that Kevin died of asphyxiation.

Charles’ SD comes two days after another brother Richard claimed Kevin’s remains from Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

The MACC is probing the RM2.6 billion and SRC International’s RM42 million deposited into the prime minister’s bank accounts.

Najib has denied using public funds for personal gain and claimed that there is a conspiracy to topple him.
