Bernard Then's body cremated in Manila

KUCHING - The body of slain Sarawakian Bernard Then Ted Fun have been cremated Pasay City Crematorium in Manila, Philippines this afternoon.

Apart from the next of kin to the electrical engineer, present during the ceremony were State Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah and special officer to the Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, Wan Khalik Wan Mohamad.

Fatimah and Wan Khalik appeared on behalf of Adenan and the Sarawak state government.

When contacted after the ceremony, Fatimah said the urn containing Bernard's ashes will be flown to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

A ceremony for relatives and friends would also be held during the same day.

"On behalf of the chief minister and the Sarawak state government, we shared the grief and the difficulties suffered by the loved ones of Then"

Then and seafood restaurant owner Thien Nyuk Fun, 50, were abducted from the Ocean King Seafood Restaurant in Sandakan, Sabah on May 14 last year.

Both were taken hostage after Filipino gunmen stormed the floating restaurant in Sandakan.

Thien was released on Nov 8. The fate was otherwise for Then, when he was killed by his abductors about nine days later. He was 39.
