Indon police round up six more suspected militants

JAKARTA - Indonesian police have rounded up six more suspected militants in connection with Thursday's terror attack in the heart of Jakarta.

Police spokesman M. Iqbal told The Straits Times on Saturday that counter-terrorism forces conducted simultaneous raids across Indonesia, including Kalimantan and nabbed the six men.

He declined to disclosed the identities of the six or details concerning the operation, believed to have been led by crack commandos from Detachment 88 between Friday and Saturday.

This brings the total number of suspects associated with the five militants, who were killed after they laid siege to a Starbucks cafe and police post at the busy downtown junction of Jalan M.H. Thamrin and Jalan K.H. Wahid Hasyim, to nine, after three were arrested earlier.

The police have raised their operational tempo against local militant groups since Thursday's attack, which left seven people – including five militants – dead and more than 20 others injured. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
