Court to seize Papagomo's house after he failed to pay damages to Anwar in defamation suit

PETALING JAYA - Blogger Papagomo will have his property seized by the court and put up for sale after he failed to pay the RM850,000 in damages awarded to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a defamation suit.

Anwar’s lawyer Latheefa Koya (pic) said that since Papagomo, whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, had failed to pay the damages, they filed for a writ of seizure and sale.

Latheefa said she and court officers went to Papagomo’s home at Villa Danau Apartments, Danau Kota, Kuala Lumpur, on Monday to execute the order but no one was at home.

She said they would get another date from the court to serve the notice.

In 2014, the High Court awarded Anwar RM850,000 in damages and costs after a full trial.

The Court of Appeal upheld the High Court’s decision in December last year.

In his suit filed in 2013, Anwar said the blogger had implied that he had engaged in indecent acts with another man.

  1. Defamation should be treated as a highly serious case as a person’s reputation can be tarnished almost immediately due to the uncivilized act. The amount awarded by the court to Anwar is such a hefty sum so it is not surprising that the accused would be required to sell his own house to cough up the full amount.
