Politicians, activists join Dr M to demand new leadership in Putrajaya

KUALA LUMPUR - In a rare show of unity, old enemies in politics and human rights activists banded together today with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in pushing for the prime minister to be replaced.

Former political rivals Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik from MCA and Lim Kit Siang from the DAP sat next to each other, while PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali took a spot beside Dr Mahathir as the former prime minister — during whose tenure Lim and PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were imprisoned — asserted why Datuk Seri Najib Razak should go.

“We agree with concerns of the people that the country is led by someone who’s doing a lot of damage to our country,” Dr Mahathir announced to a packed press conference here.

“If he’s allowed to go on, the damage will be worse and worse,” the elder statesman added.

Former Malaysian Bar president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan and Bersih 2.0 chair Maria Chin Abdullah were also present.
