China cracks down on online porn

BEIJING: A group of Internet video player service providers have been investigated and punished for spreading pornography in a nationwide crackdown, China’s Xinhua news agency reported the anti-porn authority as saying on Friday.

The campaign, which runs from February to April, was launched by the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications, in collaboration with the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), the Ministry of Public Security, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and other departments.

The anti-porn authority in Beijing has probed several Internet video player service providers for spreading lewd videos according to a statement released by the office.

In other cases, two popular video sharing mobile apps Xiaokaxiu and Miaopai were placed under investigation for providing porn videos, it added. The anti-porn office has pledged to harshly crack down on online pornography and create a “clean” cyberspace for young Internet users.--BERNAMA
