In a statement, the AGC denied news reports quoting Penang Police Chief Abdul Ghafar Rajab saying there would be no further action taken on the matter.
“The AGC wishes to clarify that the Attorney-General (AG) has yet to make any decision on the case and it is still being studied,” read the statement.
The AGC’s statement contradicts that of Abdul Ghafar, which was reported by several media outlets today.
According to reports, Abdul Ghafar said the AG told the deputy public prosecutor that there would be “no further action” on the matter.
“I was informed two days ago about this decision and hence the case is considered closed,” he had said at a press conference at the state police headquarters today.
Phang , the previous owner of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s bungalow, had come under intense scrutiny after Umno members alleged she falsified a SD in regard to the sale of her bungalow for only RM2.8 million, which was said to be below the market price for such houses in the area.
An Umno leader later lodged a police report claiming Phang had lied in her SD when she declared she “had no dealings with the state government” after a letter surfaced in several blogs of her inquiring about the state’s proposal to build foreign workers’ enclaves in Juru and Batu Kawan.
