Environmental NGO questions hill cutting at Signal Hill

KOTA KINABALU - Save Open Space Kota Kinabalu (SOS KK) is puzzled whether the ongoing earthwork and hill cutting at Signal Hill near Karamunsing is included in Kota Kinabalu City Hall's master plan or was it approved on just an ad-hoc basis.

"There are no project signboards to inform the public of the ongoing earthwork and hill cutting," said SM Muthu and Jeffri Chang in a joint statement.

It was informed that the said the hill cutting and earthworks to pave the way for a resort hotel.

They also questioned why such an open space or park ended in private hands instead of government public land which could be beautified as a mini city park.

"Looking at the site, the traffic flow is going to be a serious problem and what is DBKK's view about it? Has this been taken account before approval?"

"We would like to know whether the earthwork and the hill cutting has been approved? Does it need approval from EPD and whether such approval has been obtained?" asked the co-coordinators of SOS KK (Jefferi Chang and SM Muthu).
