Facebook's Vice President of Asia Pacific Dan Neary announced on Wednesday that Malaysia had 18 million active Facebook users keeping in touch with their friends and families or conducting business activities.
The number is 81% of all Internet users in this country.
Among the 12 million daily users of Facebook in Malaysia, some 94% are accessing the social media site via their smartphones.
Neary said the opening of an office in Malaysia would strengthen the ties between Facebook and local businesses as more and more Malaysian businesses were making use of Facebook to keep in touch or conduct business transactions with their clients.
