Only a Muslim Bumiputera can govern S’wak, says PAS

PAS president says while his party accepts Chinese and Indians as citizens, only Muslims can lead the country.

KUCHING - PAS will not allow anyone other than a Muslim Bumiputera to govern Sarawak, including those from DAP, its President Abdul Hadi Awang said.

He said while PAS accepted Chinese and Indians as citizens, the country’s leaders must only be Muslim Bumiputera.

“PAS wants Sarawak led by a Bumiputera, not other races, and they must be Muslims. We will not allow others and we disagree with anyone from the DAP leading Sabah and Sarawak.

“We accept Chinese and Indians as citizens, we treat everyone equally, but only a Bumiputera can lead the country,” he said during a ceramah at Taman Sukma here last night.

The Marang MP also explained that PAS only fielded 11 candidates in the upcoming state election because it was more keen on playing the role of adviser to the state government, rather than governing Sarawak per se.

“PAS is only contesting 11 seats. We can’t lead (the state) with these 11 seats.

“We just want to be advisers to the state government so that they will lead the state fairly and according to the principles of Islam.”
