Nine held over RTD RM1.2 million heist

KUALA LUMPUR - Police have arrested nine people, including the female mastermind, of the RM1.2 million robbery at the Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (RTD) earlier this month.

City police chief Datuk Amar Singh said the 40-year-old suspect was a RTD employee who had planned the heist for about two months.

He said police managed to recover RM111,400 of the money.

They also seized several gold chains worth RM5,256 believed to have been bought with the stolen money.

Among those arrested, aged between 24 and 67, were several RTD runners and a Rela personnel.

Police are looking for a 22-year-old suspect, Muhammad Fadzil Abdullah, whose last known address is Lot 225A, Batu 16, Sungai Plong, Sungai Buloh, to assist in investigations.

Amar said the 5.45pm incident on July 4 saw two armed robbers making off with RM754,840.30 in cash and four cheques for RM444,003.00 from the RTD office in Jalan Genting Klang, Setapak.

The robbers , who wore crash helmets, had entered through an unlocked back door and headed for the administrative enforcement office where they pointed a parang at a female employee.

They then accosted two officers calculating the day’s takings at the adjacent revenue department and fled after snatching the money.
