Working paper on taxi, Uber, Grabcar by year end

The working paper on streamlining the Uber, Grabcar and taxi services is expected to be ready before the end of this year.

Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) Chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said the working paper was now in the evaluation stage before being brought to the Cabinet.

He said the streamlining process would take a long time at it needed to go through several levels of evaluation with the involvement of various parties.

"This process involves amending the law, therefore we need to thoroughly study the matter," he said after checking on the South Integrated Transport Terminal, here, Friday, in conjunction with Aidilfitri.

Spad in its Taxi Industry Transformation Programme proposal submitted to the Government recently, explained, among others, the need to allow from the legal point, Uber and GrabCar services as well as to level the playing field for the benefit of taxi drivers too.

Meanwhile, Syed Hamid also advised commercial taxi, Uber and Grabcar drivers not to take the law into their own hands.

"We hope all parties will be calm and not provoke each other until the issue is resolved," he said.

Recently, there were reported fights involving taxi, Uber and GrabCar drivers, including the latest incident where a GrabCar driver was attacked and his vehicle damaged when picking up a passenger at MidValley, here.
