Filipinos caught with fake MyKads in Kuantan

KUANTAN - Eleven illegal immigrants were nabbed for possessing fake MyKad during a National Registration Department (NRD) operation in Kampung Balok here.

Four others were also arrested for having MyKad belonging to Malaysians in the five-hour operation held before dawn on Friday.

A few of them pretended not to understand Bahasa Malaysia when approached and one of them even pretended to suffer from epilepsy to evade arrest.

They were believed to be Filipinos and had been staying illegally for the past four years.

Initial investigations found that they bought the fake MyKad at a price of between RM200 to RM1,900 each.

Some of them claimed that the identification cards were borrowed from their friends.

The 15 individuals comprised 12 males and three women aged between 23 to 55.

The joint operation was led by Putrajaya NRD enforcement division deputy director Jamian Rosman.

Jamian said that another 49 people, aged between one-year-old to 60, were detained for various offences under the Immigration Act during the operation.

A team of 67 personnel from NRD, National Immigration Department, General Operations Force and Civil Defence Department were involved in the operation, which was conducted from 12am to 5am yesterday in four locations in Balok.
