KK City Hall mobilizes Zika epidemic control committee

KOTA KINABALU - Kota Kinabalu City Hall has activated its epidemic control committee following the confirmation of a Zika case at Taman Public Jaya at Likas here.

In a statement, mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai said the committee consists of the local authority and district health office.

“Among actions being taken are fogging activities and official visits to houses to advise residents on ensuring the cleanliness of their homes.

“City Hall will also step up efforts to clear rubbish and the drainage systems, as well as increase monitoring of construction sites,” he added.

The public is also urged to keep the area around their houses free of clutter, making sure to remove containers such as Styrofoam boxes, cans, bottles and vases that may become mosquito breeding sites.

Yeo also stated that those caught littering would be fined RM500 under the council’s anti-littering by-laws.

Members of the public who wish to report concerns pertaining to rubbish clearance can contact City Hall through its hotline: 010-222 2000.
