Sabah, A Safe Haven for Terrorists Unless ICs Re-vetted, Recalled and Reissued – Dr. Jeffrey

KOTA KINABALU - “Malaysia will become a safe haven for more terrorists and IS Islamic militants unless the federal government re-vets all ICs, and recall those dubiously issued to support a certain political party to remain in power, and re-issues new MyKads to genuine Malaysians with a corresponding Sabah IC for Sabahans” said Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, Solidariti Tanah Airku Chief cum Bingkor State Assemblyman.

“Despite my earlier concerns and urgings to remedy the situation on Sabah’s security and ICs and MyKads issued to illegal immigrants, nothing had been done and Malaysia has now become a hotspot of cross-border terrorists”.

The recent arrests of IS militants and security guards with IS links in Kuala Lumpur as well as IS sympathizers and supporters in our nation’s security forces, are but the tip of the iceberg.  They are not only entrenched in our security forces but also in government and government agencies.

It also marks the awakening of the monster created by the certain political party and the federal government to remain in power through ICs and MyKads improperly issued in Sabah, and perhaps more recently in Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur also need to stop the covert operations to fund, supply and train rebel Islamic movements in neighbouring countries as well as overtly issuing MyKads to these Islamic militants and they families.

The infiltration of Islamic militants into the nation’s security forces and security guards and into government agencies who are tasked with ensuring our security is both alarming and frightening.

The federal government needs to take immediate steps to re-vet and scrutinize all personnel charged with our security as well as in strategic government agencies such as the Immigration, Home Affairs, National Registration and Defence.  They should leave no stone unturned to weed out the IS militants and their sympathizers and supporters.

If the government does nothing now, it will only compromise Malaysia’s internal security and lead to catastrophic consequences not only in Sabah but throughout the whole nation.

The re-vetting and scrutiny exercise would need to be extended to cover all other ICs and MyKads.  This is because many of these militants and terrorists have got families and relatives already given ICs and MyKads.  In fact, ESSCOM commanders have consistently stated that these families and relatives pose a grave problem to peace keeping in Sabah.

At the same time, the Sabah government cannot wash their hands and leave everything to the federal government.   It would be irresponsible of the Sabah leaders to close both eyes, expecting these dubious IC/MyKad holders who are registered voters to vote in support of the Barisan Nasional, and thinking that everything else is fine in Sabah.

It is a cancerous growth that has spread to Malaya.  Drastic actions are needed to prevent Sabah and Malaysia from becoming a safe haven for the terrorists and Islamic militants.  So much so that Malaysia have become on the international watch-list as fighters from Malaysia have participated in Afganistan, Iran, Syria and the Middle East and more recently in Rakhine, Myanmar.

While the federal government should re-issue MyKads to genuine Malaysians or dubious citizens if they choose to continue to do so, the Sabah government should issue a Sabah IC to ensure that only genuine Sabahans become citizens of Sabah, and send back dubious Malaysians to Malaya.
