Mahathir's u-turn and rebuff, a big slap in Shafie's face

It’s not up to Warisan, says Mahathir on PPBM’s Sabah plan

PUTRAJAYA - Dr Mahathir Mohamad today laughed off concerns expressed by Warisan chief Shafie Apdal over PPBM’s plan to enter Sabah, saying it was up to the PPBM leadership to decide.

“We are not subject to anyone’s opinion except our assessment whether to go or not,” he told reporters at the Perdana Leadership Foundation today.

“We will discuss within the party whether we follow Shafie Apdal or Shafee Abdullah,” he said in an apparent poke aimed at the defence lawyer of former prime minister Najib Razak.

Mahathir said Shafie, the Sabah chief minister, was entitled to his opinion.

On Sunday, Shafie said he had met Mahathir to express his concern over reports that PPBM would open its chapter in Sabah.

“The best thing is that we keep to the understanding struck before the elections,” he said.

A series of defections from Sabah Umno has fuelled talk of PPBM’s entry into Sabah.

Mahathir had in the past denied that the Malay party would be launched in the Borneo state.
