Reading from a prepared statement in a brief press conference here, the Warisan president also advised the party’s supporters to remain calm over the development despite a pre-election agreement that PPBM would not spread its wings to Sabah.
“With regards to the entry of PPBM to Sabah, we cannot stop them, or any other party for that matter,” he said.
“Our laws also allow for new parties to be formed. We are, however, very clear on our party’s stand and direction.
“My advice is not to be emotional, but for us to remain focused on developing the state for the benefit of the people of Sabah.”
He added that Warisan would focus on governing the state to the best of its ability and ensuring that Sabah’s rights are reinstated and affirmed according to the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
He said the people of Sabah had given Warisan the mandate to govern the state in the 14th general election.
“We respect that mandate and will continue to govern the state as best we can to ensure development and provide jobs. That was promised, and we will ensure it is delivered.”
Shafie also said Warisan had worked with Pakatan Harapan before, forming the federal government together after the May 9 polls.
“We will continue to work with them for the best interests of the people,” he said.
When asked, Shafie said he had not met with Dr Mahathir Mohamad since the prime minister announced PPBM’s decision to enter Sabah last week.
