Police stations on alert for missing Italian

KOTA KINABALU - An Italian financial advisor cum compressor salesman has been reported missing for seven days since arriving in Lahad Datu.

William Bocchi, 52, was supposed to return to Italy on October 16 but there has been no news from him to date.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman confirmed the case yesterday, adding that the police had been searching for the man since the report was lodged several days ago but there has been no news thus far.

The person who lodged the police report was 33 year-old Mr Sia, a manager at MP Machinery in Lahad Datu.

According to Sia, his friend Mr Liaw from Kuala Lumpur received an email from his Italian friend, Fabio, who said Bocchi did not return to his home country as expected on October 16.

As such, Liaw contacted Sia at 1pm on October 18 asking for his help to track down Bocchi who was believed to be in Lahad Datu.

Jalaluddin said initial investigation by the police found that Bocchi last contacted Fabio on October 13 to inform that he was in Lahad Datu. However, Bocchi did not mention his exact location and purpose of visit.

Liaw has informed Sia that Bocchi was in the financial service industry and also a compressor salesman.

Immigration records showed that Bocchi entered Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal Two at 10.56pm on October 12.

He later flew from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu via MASwings at 1.05pm on October 13.

“That is his last known whereabouts.”

Jalaluddin said the police in Lahad Datu, assisted by Special Branch Unit and other units, were working on searching for Bocchi.

The police had checked hotels, airports, hospitals, motels and lodging houses, Tabin Resort and Danum Resort but Bocchi was nowhere to be found.

Jalaluddin said the police had classified the case as missing person.

Asked on the possibility that Bocchi was kidnapped or encountered mishap, he said the police had not received such reports.
