Malaysians earning below RM5,000 are set to receive a full subsidy through the government’s three-tiered fuel subsidy rationalisation programme.
The New Straits Times today reported Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah as saying that those earning between RM5,000 and RM10,000 will be receiving subsidies as well, albeit partially.
Adding that the mechanism process is still being worked out by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK), Husni said those earning RM10,000 and above would not be receiving the subsidies.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan had announced on Friday that high income earners would have to pay the market price for RON95 with low income earners set to benefit from the current subsidised rate until the rationalisation mechanism is implemented in June.
The mechanism, according to Ahmad Maslan may involve the usage of MyKad or other cards and is currently being fine-tuned by the Finance Ministry with the assistance of KPDNKK.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had announced through the recently tabled 2015 Budget that RON97 would not be exempted from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) which is set to be implemented next year.
