Honour your pledge, DAP Sabah tells Hiew

KOTA KINABALU - DAP Sabah has again called on Hiew King Cheu to honour his pledge to vacate the Luyang seat and to make way for a by-election.

It said yesterday that before the election, Hiew and all the DAP candidates made a pledge that they would not betray the trust put in them by the party and the people who have elected them as assemblymen by reneging on the promise and pledge made.

Before the election, all DAP candidates made a solemn promise and pledge before reporters and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng that they would honour and abide by the directives and regulations of the party above any personal interest, benefits and monetary gains.

The pledge includes that when elected they would not under any circumstances whatsoever resign from the party or defect to another political party.

Hiew has resigned from DAP but decided to keep the Luyang assembly seat.

“Hiew has pledged that he would consider himself having vacated the seat in the State Assembly once he has resigned from the party or defected to another political party for whatsoever reasons and his vacation of the seat shall be deemed absolutely lawful and irrevocable.

“As Hiew has said he has the support of the people of Luyang for his action to leave DAP then it is honourable for him to allow the seat of Luyang to be vacated by the State Assembly and recontest to prove he truly has the support of the people of Luyang,” said DAP Sabah. — Bernama
