Sabah police questions ‘Datuk’ over alleged assault of 62-year-old man
The Datuk, who is also a native community association leader (Umno KDM Malaysia) in Sabah was later released on police bail after the questioning when he turned up himself at the Karamunsing police headquarters soon after.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said on Monday they received the report from the elderly victim who claimed he was punched and kicked by the Datuk, who also waved his pistol at the man before he was driven away by the driver.
“We have questioned the Datuk and he is now on police bail while the weapon, a pistol, has also been seized,” he said.
Hamza said they would proceed with the case although the victim had withdrawn his police report in the evening.
“We will refer this case to the Senior Federal Counsel (SFC) as this is not a light matter,” he explained, adding that it would be up to the SFC whether to proceed with the case or not.
It was understood that the Datuk had acted aggressively to the elderly after he was being told to move his BMW car parked in the middle of the road and was obstructing the traffic prior to the 7am incident.
It was said that the elderly man had returned to his car when the Datuk started scolding him but was taken aback the Datuk followed him to the car, opened its door and started kicking and punching him.
The victim claimed that the Datuk later waved his pistol at him before asking ‘do you know who I am?’
The victim sustained minor injuries to his nose and bruises to his arms and leg in the incident.
