Musa's ignorance of what nation building means

By J Lakai

Commenting Musa statement in conjunction of the Malaysia Day, Sept 16 "Contribute to nation building", before talking about nation building, perhaps Musa should review what is his proven track since the past 9 years in office as a CM on what is the consequences of nation building that impacting Sabah for the past 49 years with Malaysia? Musa, is completely know nothing about what is nation building by all means. Musa should stop telling lies and start repenting himself.

Sabah has already come to it's 49 years of independence and today we also celebrating the 49 years of formation of the federation of Malaysia inbetween four countries of North Borneo Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore and Malaya by signing the Malaysia Agreement 1963 witnessed by the British.

In 1965, Singapore was expelled from the federation of Malaysia and become fully independent. Today, Singapore has become the richest country in South East Asia and the 6th richest country in Asia while Sabah in the name of nationhood building, has become the poorest state in Malaysia with major problems as listed below;

1. We have to tolerate 37 years of regressive educational system and we have to sacrifice 3 generations of global competitiveness in the name of nationhood. Yet, racial and religious polarization in Malaysia today is worst than the early days of independence.

2. After 49 years of centralized economic and financial mismanagement, the national debt totaled RM490 billion. Debt created to develop Malaya which Sabah and Sarawak now must share to pay.

3. For the interest of nationhood and protecting the national shipping industry - Cabotage Policy was introduced in 1980. Sabah has to suffer 32 years of discrimination and disenfranchisement, as the result Sabah having the highest cost of living in Malaysia.

4. After 49 years with Malaysia, Sabah has the worst health systems and the highest incidence of vector diseases such as TB & Malaria, in addition to;
a) Sabah is suffering from insufficient specialist  doctors and nurses,
b) Sabah has insufficient medical facilities and infrastructure,
c) Sabah has the highest mortality 13 per 1000 live births compared to 8.1 for the nation.

5. After 14 years Tenaga National Berhad (TNB) taking over power generation and distribution in Sabah, Sabah still suffer the highest interruption (2,600 mins) of electricity supply in Malaysia compared to the lowest interruption (33 mins) in Malaya, as the result Sabah is not allowed to industrialized and encourage investments opportunities.

6. Sabah is the main producer of Palm Oil and Petroleum in Malaysia, yet Sabah also has the highest incident of poverty in the country and insufficient basic needs;

a) Sabah and Sarawak has only 9,000 km of sealed road compared to 31,400 km in Malaya.
b) Sabah has insufficient clean water supply only 34% coverage compared to 95% coverage in Malaya.
c) Sabah has the lowest coverage of electricity supply, 49% without electricity compared to 0.5% without electricity in Malaya.
7. Despite expensive national spending on security the large presence of illegal immigrants are evidence the borders are porous and unsecured.
8. We have lost our political autonomy through the presence of centralized Malaya based political parties, in particular BN /Umno and PR.
9. We have lost control over immigration into our states and have been denied our role in citizenship and national registration matters. Now even illegal immigrants from neighbouring countries are favoured over our native population who are systematically diluted, disenfranchised and marginalized.

10. In 2011 budget which totaled RM109 billion. Sabah and Sarawak was only allocated RM9.75 billion  This means each of the Borneo states (Sabah & Sarawak) was allocated less than 5% of the national budget. Yet Sabah and Sarawak contributed to more than 71% of national income. In 2012, Sabah hardly gets anything.

Musa seemed trying to insult the people wisdom by assuming they don't know what is the present political scenario happened in Sabah. Therefore I want to ask Musa what nation building  is he talking about?

And for these reasons as well, Parti Maju Sabah (SAPP) want to reinstate the original terms of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 in order to claim back the status and rights of the Sabahan in Malaysia.

Thus, I urge all Sabahan to rise and teach the BN/ Umno on how to respect Sabah and it's people. 49 years is too long. No more vote for BN/ Umno.

Reject and replace all the political garbage "Wakil rakyat" with new, highly educated and clean politicians.

Last but not least, I'm also inviting the Sabahan to support Parti Maju Sabah (SAPP), the one and only Sabah local opposition party together to reinstate the original terms of Malaysia Agreement 1963 and claim the autonomy. SAPP boleh, SABAH boleh.

  1. Totally agreed with your historical facts on what happen to Sabah under the colonization of Malaya for the past 49 years.
    Musa and his bands of gangs under umno/bn are only interested to safeguard their own interests, power and become slaves to the Malayans.It is obvious that what he is trying to tell Sabahans on nation building is a liar. He will not be able to defense on the historical facts.
    Sabahans are matured people and they know what is fact and story telling.
    Come GE13 all Sabahans must vote them out for the sake of our future generations.

  13. After Mahathir, African Apartheid is rampant in Malaysia. It has neither transparency (non-corruption) nor real human rights, neither freedom of the media nor true democracy. eg: 99% of National Oil Petronas’ staff are Malays (only 50% of the population - Wikipedia). ‘Bumiputra’. How can a race be treated superior to another, especially when they work the least. The crime of apartheid is defined by the 2002 Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court as inhumane acts of a character similar to other crimes against humanity" committed in the context of an institutionalized regime of systematic oppression and domination by one racial group over any other racial group or groups and committed with the intention of maintaining that regime."

  14. I speak from NZ, rated one of the world’s top for human rights, transparency, and democracy. If we had a National oil company we wouldn’t have one race occupying 99% of jobs in Petronas. Everyone is equal in the eyes of God ! I pity Malaysia, one can write a book on its losses and tragedies. Their gratitude to those who elected BN is: Murders, manipulation, deceit, gerrymandering, controlling media and freedom, brutality, promoting racism, feeding cronies, fabricating stories and prosecution to stifle Opposition, Suaram & human rights. Massive purchases & projects with multi-million kickbacks. Plundering and mismanaged losses estimated to surpass US$100billion. When will you the Rakyat wake up and vote BN out?

  15. All the revenues from oil & gas, sucked dry by the Federal Gov't and so indirectly by UMNO/BN with little or nothing left for Sabah & Sarawak. Just compare: Scotland in Great Britain and Quebec in Canada had an open, honest & fair national referendum on cessation/separation. Any talk of independence and your ex Sabah CM Tun Faud Donald Stephen died in a crash. Sabah & Sarawak are a total tragedy, not even a proper trunk road! The natives lack electricity and drinking water while Criminals bought submarines and built twin towers costing multi-billions for kick-backs; all cronies live in palaces. Outrageous! BN's evil is earth-shaking. Finish them off now!

  16. Musa & Taib are birds of same feathers. Stark-naked depravities glaring to the world. Sarawak’s Taib Mahmud; in power 31 years, controlling finance, resource planning, the media…and enjoying the multi-million resources, timber concessions, shipping, oil palm plantations, mining, energy, land-grabs, development projects, …..everything. Elected by the people to serve, then turned around and behaved like a God-bestowed King. Evil so earth-shaking, and sooner or later punished by God with a landslide BN defeat. His son-in-law Sean was reported as saying they had few US$ billions in funds they could transfer at any one time. Not to forget: Taib’s former Aid in USA Ross Boyert was found dead following months & years of threats, blackmails & various forms of assaults & damages. Behaviour from leaders akin to that of Mafias. Musa is no better, only shorter tenure in the CM's office. Cut him off. Am writing from NZ - transparent, un-corrupt and democratic.

    1. Exactly the author's point, Wayne. English must be your first language. So, no problem there for you I suppose. Have you been writing articles for public consumption? Which ones?

      I'm not a hundred percent confident with my English myself. I do see your point though. But, but Mr Joseph Lakai's efforts are commendable. More than just commendable as a matter of fact. Had the author indicated his background as a professional writer then it would only confirm that we had really sent English education to the dogs.

      The fact is Malaysians in general have been ill-equiped with the .English language for the past forty some years. School children who excelled at English had it learned from school. Not so these days. Consider yourself lucky if your household speaks English.
      It's a long climb if English comes only in third.
      The author did highlight a revamp in education . It' s a sign of the time.

From the bottom of my heart, I'm truly grateful that people like Mr. Joseph Lakai and his fellow friends who are fighting for the people of Sabah exist. For this very reason, I would really like our future leaders to have a good written English at the very least. English is my third language and I do not speak English at home. I live in a neighbourhood where Dusun is the primary language spoken. But I actually have good teachers who encouraged me to improve my English. I'm not showing off. For your info, I'm from a Science background. We are required to have a very good written English in writing our reports. Even the slightest mistake in a sentence of our report will distort the info intended to the readers. The same goes in lawmaking. Different words arrangement will lead to a wrong interpretation from other people. Details are very important. I apologise if I looked as if I'm showing off and demeaning Mr. Joseph Lakai. 5. Wayne, you're a student still? It's good that you are already putting to good use your acquired writing skills. Keep up the good learning.

      Through my reading, I've gathered that the Education Ministry will revert the teaching of Maths and Science to Bahasa Malaysia/Melayu again in a few years. If you are learning Additional Mathematics now when the medium of instruction is back to the national language the younger ones will be learning it as Matematik Tambahan. In national school that is. Unless and until voters change the current govt come PRU 13.
      It's not a level playing field for everyone where the English language is concerned.
      It's good that you have good teachers.

  53. In the state, according to Musa, projects under the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) and initiatives under the State Development Agenda or Halatuju, are all on track in meeting their objectives.
    “Locally, we are pushing for more spin-offs from the palm oil, and oil and gas downstream sectors. These sectors are spurring new economic spin-offs, quality jobs and business opportunities. We must push for capacity building and local participation in these sectors.

  55. Sabah, he pointed out, can hold its head high in environmental and forest conservation, having taken strong measures to protect our natural resources, despite the push for development.
    “It is disheartening that there have been some false reports in blogs about large scale illegal logging in Sabah. Such baseless allegations are perhaps aimed at derailing our efforts in Sustainable Forest Management for which we have taken great effort and which have received kudos and certification from international bodies. We also continue to protect our coastlines, marine resources and other ecosystems,” he said.
