Last month, I wrote to your paper praising my MP, Dr Hiew King Chiew of Kota Kinabalu for helping the shopowners of Kampung Air and for announcing a dialogue with City Hall and hawkers at the Kampung Air night market.
That was soon after the fire that gutted a shop. Many problems in Kampung Air have been reported in your excellent paper.
It is very disappointing that nothing have come out of the promises by the MP to call a dialogue with DBKK. My praise to Dr. Hiew was premature and wasted. I hereby appeal through your newspaper to DBKK not to forget the residents, hawkers and shop operators of Kampung Air.
So many things have been proclaimed by the Government to be done in Kota Kinabalu City. But we in Kampung Air remain stuck with traffic jams, noisy night hawkers, run down shops and illegal foot masseurs.
Pondans (Transsexuals) and foreign pimps ply their trade openly day and night in the five-foot ways. Rubbish is strewn at back lanes. Street Kids selling 4-digit draws are becoming more daring.
Our MP Hiew and Assemblyman Dr. Yee Moh Chai should do something. We are not some far away remote village. We are in the city centre, next to the City Hall building and the High Court.
In the newspapers, we read about Dr. Hiew inspecting drains, rubbish dumps and bus stops. How about us in Kampung Air?
We read in the newspapers Dr Yee officiating functions, cutting ribbons and making great speeches. How about us in Kampung Air? We are the central part of KK City. We deserve attention, too, and it seems for us and may others, Daily Express, is all we can really count on.
