SAPP is non-racial party

KOTA KINABALU,  June 4, 2011:  Several SAPP leaders from the Bumiputera came out in rebutting DAP's Chan Foong Hin' statement saying that SAPP is a 'Chinese dominated party'.

"We want to rebut the false statement by Sabah DAP publicity chief Chan Foong Hin who called SAPP a "Chinese dominated party" because his statement has insulted many Sabahans of all races who support SAPP. In fact, SAPP has always been a multi-racial party struggling for the people for Sabah irrespective of race and religion although SAPP has been led by an ethnic Chinese ever since its formation in 1994.

After SAPP broke free of the BN in 2008, SAPP has been further transformed with a wider reach into the rural areas with more Bumiputra leaders at all levels.

Many Bumiputras and I have been with Datuk Yong Teck Lee from the first day that Datuk Yong contested in politics in 1985 under PBS. After 26 years, we are still firm and committed to our non-racial struggle for Sabah and people.

"I am a founding member of SAPP in 1994. Ever since 1994, SAPP has active branches in remote areas like Banggi, Tungku, Sindumin, Kemabong and most rural districts. If Chan does not know, he should ask his DAP Chief Jimmy Wong Sze Phin and Kota Kinabalu MP Dr. Hiew King Chiew who were very active Supreme Council members of SAPP when Datuk Yong was the Chief Minister. Later, Jimmy Wong joined Bersekutu and contested in Kudat in 1999. Dr. Hiew joined PBS. Although they are now DAP leaders, we hope to work with them again for the interests of Sabah," Awang Talip Awang Bagul said.

"It was a mistake for Chan to call SAPP a Chinese party and UBF (United Borneo Front) as a Kadazandusun outfit. Both SAPP and UBF struggle for Sabah under the Borneo Agenda. We advise DAP's young leaders not to fall into the same trap of divide and rule politics imposed on Sabah by KL politicians by playing with racial politics ever since 1963.

"As true Malaysians, we want to see that the people are united. We view with dismay the situation in Sarawak whereby the two parties system has become a "Chinese opposition and Bumiputra government". This is not healthy for national unity. Is this what DAP want to happen in Sabah?

"So, we as Bumiputra leaders will work hard to bring about a truly multi-racial government in Sabah by Sabahans and not one that is polarized along racial lines. This can happen under SAPP as a truly local party to unite Malaysians in Sabah.

Awang Talip is SAPP Advisor and former Kota Kinabalu District Chief.

  2. Gerakan is also a multi-racial party but dominated by chinese. The Indians and malays in Gerakan are just 'window dressings' similar to SAPP.
The bumiputra moslems in SAPP should leave SAPP and join PKR and the chinese should also support DAP and PKR.

  3. Minta SAPP lantik melayu sebagai Presiden No 2 dan baru saya percaya ia Parti berbilang kaum dan bukan hanya tunjuk gambar lapan orang yang separuhnya pakai topi haji pula.Itu saja kah yang sokong SAPP?

  4. Only party malaya are playing race and religion card. No wonder party malaya like DAP, PKR and PAS was rejected by the people of Sabah.

In the coming GE13, the people of Sabah will send all PKR+DAP+PAS back to malaya together with their umno.

  6. These Dap agents of KL are just out to deny SAPP the chance in the coming GE becoz these Dap opportunists are just hoping to become YBs only. What can they do except barking at the wrong tree? They are ever so pleased to praise Umno here becoz they are both on the same boat or ship from KL.
