Queville ToSabah Bersih is expecting a three-fold increase in rally participants if the police approves its application to hold the gathering in the Foochow Association Auditorium.
KOTA KINABALU: The organisers of the Bersih 2.0 campaign in Sabah are optimistic that the state police commissioner will give them the go ahead now that the prime minister has allowed Bersih to hold its rally in a stadium.
Sabah Bersih secretary Chester Pang said they submitted a fresh application yesterday for the July 9 campaign.
The police rejected their earlier application a few days ago.
The new application is for the Sabah rally to be held at the Foo Chow Association Auditorium instead of Padang Merdeka as planned earlier.
Pang said the time of the event remained as from 2pm to 4pm.
“We have paid for the rental of the venue and we are hoping that the police will consider our application this time since it will be held indoors,” he said.
Besides this, he disclosed that they have also extended a copy of the application to the head of state.
Sabah Bersih is an ad-hoc grouping of people.
Meanwhile, its chairman Atama Katama expressed confidence they will have no problem of achieving the targeted number of 500 participants at the rally, judging from the good response received in its official Facebook event page.
“If Bersih 2.0 Sabah is allowed in an indoor venue then we are expecting the number of participants to increase threefold,” he added.
He however noted that there may be a slight change to the initial programme to include a multimedia presentation on the importance of free and fair elections.
“Among the programmes that we will have is ‘Open Microphone Session’ where members of NGOs, Youth Movements, associations and political parties can come on stage to give a two-minute talk on Bersih 2.0 and civil rights,” he said.
Other events will include songs, dances and performances from local talents.
He was however unable to confirm whether rally participants will receive the Bersih paraphernalia such as t-shirts, balloons and headbands.

ReplyDeleteKOTA KINABALU: Polis Sabah tidak akan melayan sebarang permohonan permit bagi mengadakan perhimpunan oleh Gabungan Pilihan Raya Bersih dan Adil (Bersih) di negeri ini walaupun pertubuhan itu berhasrat untuk membuat perhimpunan secara aman di dalam stadium.
Pesuruhjaya Polis negeri, Datuk Hamza Taib berkata kerajaan sebelum ini telah pun mengesahkan bahawa pertubuhan berkenaan haram dan tidak wajar bagi pihaknya untuk mengeluarkan sebarang permit.
“Semua permohonan atas nama Bersih kita tidak akan layan kerana ia merupakan pertubuhan haram, mana boleh kita benarkan aktiviti yang dilakukan oleh pertubuhan haram,” katanya.
Hamza berkata demikian ketika ditemui selepas menghadiri program Hari Bertemu Pelanggan Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) Kontinjen Sabah, di Mess Pegawai Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen (IPK) Sabah di sini kelmarin.
Menurutnya, polis bagaimanapun akan mengkaji terlebih dahulu sekiranya ada permohonan untuk melakukan sebarang perhimpunan oleh pertubuhan yang bukan menggunakan nama Bersih.
“Jika ada permohonan (permit perhimpunan), kita akan proses berdasarkan prosedur dan syarat-syarat tertentu sebelum diluluskan.
“Bagaimanapun, jika perhimpunan yang dipohon juga menjurus kepada ‘Bersih 2.0′, kita akan tolak…kita tidak mahu mereka memohon permit menggunakan nama pertubuhan lain tetapi menjurus ke arah itu (Bersih),” jelasnya.
Sementara itu, Hamza memberitahu setakat kelmarin belum ada sebarang pihak atau pertubuhan yang memohon permit untuk mengadakan sebarang perhimpunan di negeri ini.
Bagaimanapun, katanya, pasukan polis Sabah akan tetap bersiap-sedia bagi menghadapi sebarang kemungkinan perhimpunan haram dijalankan di sini esok.
“Semua kontinjen dan anggota dari Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah akan turut serta, termasuk Unit Tindakan Rusuhan Awam (PORU), Pasukan Gerakan Am (PGA), unit udara dan unit anjing.
“Selain itu, anggota polis berpakaian orang awam juga akan ditempatkan di semua kawasan yang telah dikenal pasti bagi memantau keadaan dari masa ke semasa,” tambahnya.
Pasti SABAH tidak memerlukah PERHIMPUNAN BERSIH ini. Jadi sudah pasti tidak akan ada pengeluaran permit dari pihak police.
ReplyDeleteSabah ni lebih2 pula nak ikut2 perhimpunan Bersih, tengok mcm Sarawak, mereka tak terpengaruh pula dgn bersih. jgnlah terikut2 dgn budaya org semenajung tu.
ReplyDeleteItulah. Tiba2 lagi mahu ikut2 macam di Semenanjung. Sarawak tidak kecoh pun. Beginilah, diam tidak semestinya kalah dan bising tidak semestinya menang. Renung2 kan.
