TUNGKU: The decomposed body of a Sulu gunman was found by the security forces here yesterday.

The body is believed to be one of the Sulu gunmen who was gunned down by security forces at Kampung Tanjung Batu on March 6.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib in an Ops Daulat briefing yesterday, said the body was taken out from the area about 11am yesterday.

“The body of a Sulu gunman who was killed during a gunfight on March 6 had been sent to Lahad Datu Hospital for post-mortem.

“With the body of the intruder, the number of bodies that we had taken out until today is 46,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hamza disclosed that the number of arrests under the Security Offences (Special Measure) Act still stands at 126.

He said the operation was still ongoing and the security forces were still doing the searching and mopping up operation at Sungai Bilis.

“We expect the operation to end soon and the villagers will be allowed to return to their houses.
“Today (Saturday), we allowed the villagers of Tanjung Batu and Tanjung Labian, whose houses were not damaged during the incident, to return.

“Those whose houses were destroyed will have to stay at the evacuation centre temporarily,” added Hamza.
