Sabah police chief denies mistreating Filipinos
He also denied that shots were fired at Filipinos who were leaving Sandakan
LAHAD DATU: Sabah police commissioner Hamza Taib today “strongly” denied reports that his men mistreated Filipino civilians living in Sabah, amid ongoing operations to flush out followers of Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III.
He dismissed the reports of maltreatment, according to a report on online media.
“I strongly deny that. They can say anything but the focus of our operation is only in the two areas of Kampung Tanduo and Kampung Tanjung Batu,” he said.
Hamza also denied that shots were fired at Filipinos leaving Sandakan, as was reported.
Many Filipinos have been leaving Sabah since the Malaysian security forces started offensives against Kiram’s followers, who engaged them in deadly encounters since March 1.
While Kiram had offered a unilateral ceasefire last March 7, Malaysia has rejected it and demanded that Kiram’s followers lay down their arms without condition.
On the other hand, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs had asked the Malaysian government to clarify reports that even Filipino civilians were being maltreated during the offensives.
Earlier today, DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said they may initially coordinate with the Social Welfare Department in documenting the alleged cases of mistreatment, since a Philippine team in Sabah has been denied access to Ground Zero.

Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Philippine media is making baseless claims of mistreatment of Suluks in Sabah.
ReplyDeleteSome of the more bizarre claims by Philippine radio, newspapers and websites include accusations that the Malaysian military is killing Filipinos wantonly.
ReplyDelete“I believe that these are just more baseless allegations made. I have read reports thoroughly. Had there been any shooting and killing, the police and armed forces would have made the necessary announcements,” he said here
ReplyDeleteZahid said the Philippine media is resorting to rumour-mongering which may affect diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Philippines.
ReplyDelete“I would like to have peace now but as what our prime minister has told the Philippine president, these terrorists must surrender unconditionally. However, there is no sign that it will happen,” said Zahid.
ReplyDelete“If they were to surrender then the next course of action will follow. Only when the armed intrusion is ended that the legal action will follow,” he said.
ReplyDeleteZahid said Malaysia will continue to consider the Sulu intruders as terrorists even though the Philippines has protested the label. He added the barbaric actions of the Sulu terrorists have justified the label.
ReplyDeleteOn the move to deploy an additional five army batallions from the peninsular to Sabah, he assured that it would not disrupt the security operation in the country.
ReplyDelete“Militants are everywhere and we have to be careful about it. We have the upper hand and we are monitoring their movements at the moment,” Zahid said.
They are making up stories.
ReplyDeleteApa punya pilipin? Buat hal ka?
ReplyDeleteHow about our policemen have been slain?
ReplyDeleteNonsense at all.
ReplyDeleteFilipinos should be thankful being here.
ReplyDeleteMemang teruk la macam ni.
ReplyDeleteWe never do such thing towards others
ReplyDeleteThere is no such thing as like that
ReplyDeleteFitnah bukan satu jalan penyelesaian.
ReplyDeleteAdakah tuduh orang mcm tu
