Ambrose Lee’s office broken into; RM300K missing

KOTA KINABALU - Prominent businessman cum lawyer Datuk Joseph Ambrose Lee reportedly lost about RM300,000 cash after armed robbers broke into his law firm in Luyang, here early this morning.

Popularly known as the ‘Labuan House’ the office was broken into by three men after they overpowered a security guard who was taking a nap, at around 2.10am.

It was believed that the robbers pounced on the 44-year-old security guard who had fallen asleep. The robbers then him and covered his face with a piece of cloth before tying both his hands.

They then brought him to a room outside the house where a Filipina maid was sleeping. Both were tied up as they ransacked the place.

The robbers broke into the main house through a window, where they forced open a safe containing RM10,000, USD10,000 (RM38,000), S$120,000 (RM240,000), three watches and personal documents including passports.

According to City police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun, the three robbers then fled in a waiting car driven by a fourth accomplice.

The security guard managed to run to his wife who was living behind the house and got her to free him before he lodged a report.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the robbers were armed with knuckle dusters.

“Police investigators managed to lift five fingerprints within the house,” Jauteh said, adding that the house alarm system was not working when the incident happened.

The case would be investigated under section 395 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery.
