KOTA KINABALU - Luyang assemblyman Hiew King Cheu yesterday said there had been many old issues being raised, including disagreement and argument over his joining the Barisan Nasional (BN) through MCA.
“The Sabah BN component parties have made various comments on me being invited to join the MCA, with some supporting and opposing.
“I think this is good as far as the BN spirit is concerned. Definitely, personally I feel bad and awkward if this is causing too much trouble and upset some BN leaders,” said Hiew when asked to comment on the issue.
The former DAP Sabah chief’s decision to join MCA recently sparked a heated debate with some BN Sabah component parties arguing that MCA should have sought consensus among the ruling coalition members before accepting Hiew’s as a member.
“I would not want to see the BN team spirit ‘shattered’ just because of disagreement and argument over my joining the BN,” he said.
Hiew said he is not important as far as his position is concerned, but in order to do better for the people, he feels that it is only possible through the BN platform – the government.
That is why he understands why MCA invited him. This is because MCA in Sabah has no state representative after the party lost Kepayan.
Hiew said that after speaking to MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, he knows that MCA can provide him with a more suitable platform to perform, and of course the other BN component parties would have to agree on this first.
He respects the views of the BN component parties and he only wishes that his service can be of help to the government.
