Police looking for hostage who escaped

KUNAK: State CID Chief SAC Omar Mammah has called on one of the kidnap victims, identified as Maslan, who escaped from the kidnappers, to come forward and assist in police investigation.

Maslan was kidnapped together with his 32-year-old employer, Chan Sai Chiun from Perak, from a fish farm at Kg Air Sapang, some 10km from the township, Monday. Omar said they believed Maslan jumped from the kidnappers' boat and met with a business partner of Chan before going missing.

"We are looking for Maslan and hope that he would come forward to facilitate our investigation.

"We believe that Maslan went into hiding as he has no identification documents. We have no idea of his whereabouts and only know a man claimed to be Maslan had met one of the fish farm owners to relate the incident.

"He told the owner that he swam towards a mangrove area after jumping out from the boat and hid there until morning before seeing him (one of the owners) at 10am," he told a press conference, Tuesday.

To a question, Omar said no word has been received from the kidnappers as well as no ransom demanded, so far.

In addition, he said five foreigners aged between 16 and 26 have been arrested from the farm at 10pm on Monday to facilitate investigations into the kidnapping.

He said the five men would be referred to the Immigration Department for further action as they have no valid documents.
