Orok, who made the apology via Facebook, claimed that the earlier posting was not the complete version and that only a certain part of the posting was circulated by irresponsible quarters to make it look like he made the alleged insult.
"I realise that the postings being circulated by irresponsible quarters had offended people and I apologise for it," he said.
"I do not intend to offend or hurt anyone and neither do I have any intention of insulting Prophet Muhammad and Islam," he added.
State Reform Party (Star) Sabah Chief Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, when contacted, said Orok had been advised to apologise for the alleged remarks.
"While he may have his right to express his personal opinion, Star disagrees with the alleged statement and political style," he said, adding that Star will issue Orok a show-cause letter.
Several police reports were lodged against Orok for issuing the statement, which allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad and Islam.
