Two killed while armoured vehicle overturns

SANDAKAN - Two soldiers died while four others were hurt after the armoured vehicle belonging to the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) overturned on Jalan Sungai Tiram, Mile 19, near here, this morning.

In the 11.40am incident, the two victims died at the scene, while four seriously injured were sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for treatment.

The two soldiers who were killed were Patahur Mohd Hanif Rahim, 31, and Ahmad Fikri Mansor, 23.

The injured was the driver of the vehicle, Mohd Faizal Ahmad, 29, the others, Mohd Amaruddin Che Soh, 29; Haffez Mohamad Khairuddin, 24; and Ifaiznor Ismail, 29.

They were from Kem Batu 10 in Kuantan, Pahang, transferred to ESSCOM from 15 June to 15 September.

It is understood that, when it was their way back to Camp Sri Kinabatangan with another armored car after conducting security patrols at a resort here.

Remains of both victims, Mohd Hanif who hails from Johor and Ahmad Fikri from Kelantan, will be sent back to their homes tomorrow.
