DAP branch chief quits citing serious leadership problem

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah DAP's Donggongon Branch Chief, Chua Men Nam, quit the party on Monday, saying his heart was no longer in politics.

Chua had been elected as the Sabah DAP Assistant Treasurer during the party's election in Jan 12 last year but rejected the role immediately, claiming it was over how he "just did not like how things were done in the party."

He will now focus all his energy on assisting over 5,000 rubber smallholders in the State given his position as president of the Sabah Rubber Smallholder Association.

"With this I quit politics altogether and do not want anything to do with the party anymore," he declared.

"I have found that I am not suitable for the political field and have been inactive in DAP for over a year from around the time the party election last year," said Chua to Daily Express, here.

He revealed his reason to enter politics was solely to assist rubber smallholders in the State and had dreamt of fighting for their rights in the State Cabinet.

However, found out that Sabah DAP has a history of keeping members on the sidelines when they are no longer important, especially after the 13th General Election was over, he pointed out.

Chua admitted there had been a number of people who had quit the party over a "serious" problem with the party leadership, adding that members were also quite suspicious of each other.
