Sabah footballer critically injured in car crash, cousin died (updated)

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah footballer Rozaimi Abdul Rahman, 23-year-old striker is are reported to be in critical condition at the Queen Elizabeth Emergency ward after the vehicle he was travelling in crashed at 1:30pm today.

However, Rozaimi's nephew Awangku Mohd Farris bin Mahmud, 21, who was at the wheel, later succumbed to serious injuries in the head and body in the QEH ICU around 8:37 pm.

Farris, former Sabah Under-19 footballer reportedly lost control of the vehicle before it overturned several times near SJK (C) Shan Tao, 3.5 km Tuaran Road in Likas.

Fire and Rescue Department Mohd Affendy K. Ramin said in a statement that both men were sent to the hospital after they received a distress call at about 1.34pm.

Rozaimi had previously played for Sarawak FA, Selangor FA and Harimau Muda A before joining the Sabah Football Association.
