"Still dreaming" Tuan Ibrahim says party will continue working with PKR and build ties with other parties.
KUALA LUMPUR - Pakatan Rakyat still lives, in the relationship between PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat, according to the Islamic party’s deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
He said PAS would strengthen Pakatan Rakyat by reinforcing ties with PKR and several other parties, after PKR and PAS agreed at a meeting last week to strengthen cooperation.
“Pakatan without DAP is a political platform that is still intact and existing till today” he said, pointing to the cooperation between the two parties in the Selangor state government (headed by PKR) and in Kelantan (led by PAS).
Tuan Ibrahim’s remarks, in a statement last night quoted by Malaysiakini, come in the face of the new opposition alliance, Pakatan Harapan, which was launched last month by PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara, the breakaway party of PAS dissidents ousted from party leadership at the party elections in June.
The formation of the new alliance had been foreshadowed by the DAP declaring an end to the Pakatan Rakyat alliance after deep divisions between the DAP and PAS.
However, jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali have both stood by PAS as a Pakatan partner, with Azmin insisting that PAS members would continue to be a part of the Selangor state coalition government which he heads as menteri besar.
Last week, Azmin held out hope of PAS teaming up again with its former allies to form a united opposition front against the Barisan Nasional at the next general election.
However, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had remained steadfast in his opposition to relationships with the DAP and Amanah.
