KUALA LUMPUR - The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has yet to close the books on DAP’s controversial party re-election two years ago.
This is because DAP had yet to comply with RoS' advice on the subject, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"ROS is still conducting a thorough investigation against DAP following the party's re-elections on Sept 29, 2013," he said in a written reply in Parliament today. Zahid who is also home minister, said on April 3, 2014, ROS received letters from DAP, which stated the party's application for a judicial review.
He added that on Sept 23, 2014, the party retracted its intention to summon RoS to the Kuala Lumpur High Court. Zahid was replying to Anthony Loke Siew Fook (DAP-Seremban) who had asked on the progress of RoS' investigation on DAP and when the application of new branches, which had been submitted to RoS, can be approved.
"RoS is continuing its probe against DAP as the party's management has yet to take action to comply with RoS' advice," Zahid said. In Sept 2013, DAP was forced to hold a re-election of its central executive committee (CEC) after the RoS was dissatisfied with the party's explanation on the issue of manipulation of votes.
This controversy followed complaints by several DAP members, who claimed the CEC election was improperly conducted after the party had announced that a glitch in the tabulation led to the wrong candidate being elected to the CEC.
The re-election also saw party activist Vincent Wu being moved to 26th spot from his original sixth spot, clearing the way for Zairil Khir Johari, who was originally placed 39th, to move up to 20th. In addition, 753 party members had also claimed that they were denied the right to attend the congress as delegates.
