Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim says that education should never be compromised and urges people, especially Johoreans to focus on education.
KUALA LUMPUR - Outspoken Prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has voiced out concerns regarding the country’s standard of education, and the “mentality” of people it develops.
Taking to Facebook, Tunku Ismail said education should never be compromised for political interests and purposes.
“To my fellow Johoreans, especially our youth, I urge you to grab every opportunity to excel in the field of education, because education is empowerment, and is your greatest weapon to make Johor a better place.
“I wholeheartedly urge you to make education your utmost priority, and I promise to do whatever it takes to work hand in hand with the state government to give the attention it deserves, for the future of Johor,” said the message which was posted on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page.
The post, which was uploaded on Saturday night, had garnered over 23,000 likes and more than 5,400 shares.
The prince also expressed worry over the “political instability” that is going on in the country.
“With the political turbulence, what can change our fortunes is not an uprising or rallies, but education. With education, you will be better prepared and equipped to decide the course of our nation.
“I pray we will have the representatives and ministers that are sincere in putting the needs of the people first, before their bank accounts and projects being lobbied,” he said.
Tunku Ismail then took a pot shot at politicians “who sway whichever direction the wind blows” and behave like celebrities.
“As politicians, you must go to the ground and listen to the people, the very people who put you in your comfortable position in the first place.
“I pray that one day, we would not have corrupt and racist people amongt us. Remember that Johor became the great state that it is today because of the collective hard work and harmony of all races, the whole of Bangsa Johor,” he said.
Acknowledging there were parties “out to silence” him and his family, he stressed there is nothing to be taken personally.
“We are voicing out for the sake of the rakyat, we gain nothing from it. So I will remind all of Bangsa Johor again, education and your positive mentality is your greatest weapon do decide what’s best for your future.” - FMT
