Kelantan suspect not a bomb expert, says IGP
“I don’t know what he wants to do in southern Philippines. Maybe he wants to spread Islam or he wants to further his studies there.
“We are still waiting for a full report from the Philippines But according to our intelligence, he is not a bomb expert as claimed by Filipino authorities,” Khalid told reporters at a function at the city police headquarters.
Khalid also doubted that the Malaysian suspect is a militant but is waiting for the official report.
Yesterday it was reported that the Malaysian suspect, a Kelantanese, was arrested in Basilan earlier this month for suspected involvement in terror activities.
According to a report in the Philippine Star, the man was arrested at the port town of Maluso as he was trying to leave for Malaysia. He is currently being held by the military.
Colonel Cirilo Donato, the commander of the 104th Army Brigade, said the suspect was also found in possession of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The military is checking whether the suspect, who has previously been seen in Abu Sayyaf camps and during the militant group’s skirmishes with the armed forces, has trained Abu Sayyaf militants to make bombs.
