16 beauties to compete for Miss Scuba International title in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU - Sixteen lasses from across the globe will put their marine knowledge to the test this weekend to win the Miss Scuba International crown.

The prestigious beauty pageant, to be held in Sabah for the 6th time this year, is aimed at encouraging young women to take up diving and promote marine conservation worldwide.

The grand finals of Miss Scuba International will take place this Saturday at the Magellan Sutera Harbour Resort, here.

This year's contestants are from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Latvia, United Kingdom, USA, Netherlands, Myanmar, South Korea, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Philippines.

Miss Scuba International founder Robert Lo hoped the contestants, aged between 18 and 28, would put their knowledge into practice and inspire others to embrace great caused.

"I hope they can experience the magnificent of the underwater world and at the same time put in best effort to protect the ocean so more people can enjoy scuba diving."

Lo, who is also is the owner of Sipadan Mabul Resort (SMART) and Mabul Water Bungalows, believed by sharing the wonders of the underwater world via beauty queens, it will enable more people to understand their responsibility in protecting the ocean.

Prior to the grand finale, all contestants are required to take part in pre-pageant activities.

Among the activities are reef cleanup, charity, and photoshoots. They also visited Pulau Mabul and world-famous Pulau Sipadan for diving.
