KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said today that he was never briefed on water projects initiated by the federal government and was kept in the dark on the undertakings that amounted to millions of ringgit.
He claimed the former Rural and Regional Development minister, during his tenure, did not inform the state government regarding federal water projects rolled out in the state.
"I would like to stress that the minister, during his tenure, has never once met me to brief me on projects... despite my repeated requests.
"Even if we have difference of opinions, that is something we can solve on our own. But he should have briefed the state government on the works being done.
"So, we are left in the dark about project amounting to thousands of million of ringgit. We don't know... maybe he went directly to the State Water Department here," said Musa during the question and answer session.
He was replying to Datuk Seri Wilfred Bumburing (Parti Cinta Sabah - Tamparuli) additional question on whether state government monitors projects done by the federal government.
While Musa did not mention names, it was believed that his remark referred to Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, who recently left Umno to form his own political platform. Shafie held the ministerial position from April 2009 until July last year before he was removed following a cabinet reshuffle.
"Maybe it was a way to humiliate the CM of Sabah...but I can accept if you don't want to see me.
"But, what I am not satisfied is that projects worth millions of ringgit meant for Sabah folks end up not benefiting its people. Even now, there are people who come up to me and say 'Datuk, we don't have water'," added Musa.
In the meantime, he also questioned why did the State Water Department went on to approve payments to contractors that failed to complete their assigned projects.
