The tussle for the top post in Sabah PKR reaches boiling point today when all Sabah divisional heads sit down to a tete-a-tete with PKR secretary-general Saifudin Nasution who is here to work out a consensus on who should be appointed to the position.
Kota Marudu PKR division leader Anthony Mandiau said that there was a unanimous decision among divisions in Sabah to nominate Tuaran head Ansari Abdullah as the new state chief.
Claiming to represent 15 divisional chiefs, including Labuan and two acting heads of divisions in Sabah, he said: “We felt Ansari is the best from among us not only because of his educational background but because he is sincere and loyal.”
Mandiau was speaking at a press conference here yesterday to pledge support for Ansari. Ansari, who has the blessings of the party’s top leaders, is hoping to topple incumbent Ahmad Thamrin Jaini who is seeking a reappointment.
Three other divisional chiefs were also present at the conference. They were Dojit Muda (Sipitang), Ambrose Sipin (Beluran) and Jonathan Yasin (Ranau), who is Ansari’s brother-in-law.
Ansari himself together with Batu Sapi divisional head Hassnar Ebrahim did not join the press conference but remained in the hotel premises.
It is learnt that the PKR political bureau will meet on Friday and the party is likely to announce a Sabah party chief on Sunday.
Weak leader
Earlier in the conference, Mandiau accused Thamrin of being a weak and incapable leader.
“Thamrin is weak and insincere as shown by his failure to campaign for PKR in the recent Batu Sapi by-election.
“Under Thamrin, the party is moving very slowly and if this is allowed to continue, PKR would be weakened and the future of the people here would be in jeopardy, especially with the 13th general election looming.
“Even Thamrin’s own division, Libaran, is like ‘hidup segan, mati tak mahu’,” Mandiau said, adding that he was disappointed at the delay in appointing a Sabah PKR chief.
He hoped that the party would deliver on its promise to give Sabah autonomy to decide on its own leader.
Asked if there would be a secret ballot to decide the new chief, Mandiau said he and the division heads would object to any move to introduce a poll.
“We have already made a written representation to party president Dr Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail). We will leave it to her to decide accordingly,” he said.

Why sabahan so bodoh put their future in the hand of outsiders for the future of their generations. Now generation should and must take a brave steps to change the present for our generations.
