The Kuala Lumpur High Court has granted leave to Sungai Siput MP Dr D Jeyakumar's application for a judicial review.
The application is against the federal government's withholding of RM1 million annual allocation entitled to the opposition-held parliamentary constituency.
The PSM MP said he was "pleasantly surprised" with the decision as he didn't expect the court to grant the leave.
Jeyakumar holds that the allocations, that BN MPs receive but are withheld from opposition MPs, are a constitutional right of all elected legislators and that present methods of their disbursement in opposition wards cannot withstand public scrutiny.
Several Pakatan Rakyat MPs, including PKR Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, also held watching briefs, as the case has implications on their own constituencies.
Nurul Izzah Anwar is also present today to lend Jeyakumar support. (Wong Teck Chi)
