SAPP to UPKO: Quit BN over RCI issue

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) advised UPKO to quit Barisan Nasional (BN) because the ruling coalition undoubtedly would not set up the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe the huge number of illegal immigrants in Sabah.

SAPP Vice President Japiril Suhaimin said UPKO have to take the drastic action because there is no doubt that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would not entertain calls to establish the RCI as it could backfire UMNO, the back bone of BN.

"UPKO' s disappointment with the slow progress in the setting up of the RCI is similar to having no confidence in Najib. SAPP quit BN in September 2008 after having no confidence in the then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. So, I advised UPKO to follow our footstep," he said.

He was commenting to UPKO's President Tan Sri Bernard Dompok's statement that UPKO is unhappy with the slow progress in the setting up of the RCI.

Japiril said many quarters in Sabah had called on the Federal Government to set up the RCI with SAPP paving the way.

He said some Sabah BN component parties like UPKO, PBS and LDP follow suit and at some point making various statements that the Federal Cabinet had approved the setting up of the RCI.
However, Najib shoot back by saying that the RCI was still under consideration.

"The people of Sabah hope that UPKO, PBS and LDP stands on RCI is genuine and not just to fish support due to the looming general election," Japiril said adding insincere stand would jeopardise them later.

Japiril went on saying that every quarters knew that the RCI would spill the beans on UMNO's involvement in helping foreigners especially illegal immigrants to obtain MyKad through the back door, which is called Project IC.

"Once the truth known, the people of Sabah would certainly reject UMNO and BN in the coming general election, and the ruling coalition undoubtedly do not want this to happen," he said.
He said UMNO led Federal BN Government fears that the RCI would lead them to losing the general election.

  3. SAPP bising2 pasal RCI, tidak akan bawa apa2 perubahan. Kalau parti komponen BN terus mendesak untuk tubuhkan RCI, at least ada harapan lagi ditubuhkan.

Who is this fellow asking UPKO to quit BN?

Could it be another unhappy 'no turn back' like quitting BN because of Paklah?

    1. RCI memang patut ditubuhkan, sekarang kita cuma perlu tunggu pengumuman dariapda kerajaan persekutuan mengenai penubuhan RCI tersebut. Harap-harap sebelum PRU-13.

  9. SAPP begitu pasti RCI tidak akan ditubuhkan? Belum sampai masa untuk kerajaan Pusat mengumumkan penubuhan RCI lagi, jangan suka menghasut orang lain untuk tinggalkan parti, jika UPKO mahu keluar ataupun kekal bersama BN, itu kebebasan mereka. SAPP tidak menghormati hak demokrasi UPKO.

  33. Speaking at a press conference after the sub-committee meeting yesterday, Pairin said they have agreed to form a working committee which will be headed by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary general Datuk Henrynus Amin.

  34. “Today we have compiled the proposed TOR from various BN component parties and the working committee will consolidate the proposal and submit a united draft to the Prime Minister and BN top leadership within one week.

  35. “I would like to thank all the Sabah BN component parties for participating in the discussion which I think have truly focused on the interest of the rakyat and the protection of their citizenship as well as in urging the authorities to enforce the laws of the country,” he said.

Pairins aid they expect the formation of the RCI to be done soon after the TOR is finalized by the federal government.

When asked what would the TOR contain, he said that there are a lot of suggestions from the BN Sabah component parties.

“What I’ve outlined just now is the objective of the RCI which is to resolve the issues pertaining to the illegal immigrants and resolve issues which have been adversely created by their presence so that in the eyes of the citizens it can be seen that their rights are protected and the laws of this country are enforced properly.

“It also shows that the laws of this country are adhered to and respected by people who want to come to work or enter our country because we are talking about the interest of the citizens, about the sovereignty of the country being protected, about the laws being enforced properly and seriously, about rectification of procedure which can prevent the illegal issuance of documents, because in the past we see not only ICs could be issued illegally but birth certificates and also for that matter passport,” he stressed.

“We have all this matter in mind which obviously the RCI has to cover and it must be formed with immediate effect. We are suggesting to see results for the short term within 6 months and for the longer term within two years,” he added.

Pairin also pointed out that there are no two ways about the united stand by BN component political parties in Sabah on the formation of the RCI.

“Obviously the expected announcement of the formation of the RCI by the federal government or the PM has yet to be heard (but) we have no doubt in our mind that the federal cabinet has already agreed to the formation of the RCI.

“We know that part of the delayed announcement is because the TOR coming from so many different sources, have yet to be fully submitted for the consideration of the top leadership.

  36. “We are of course, all in the know that many expressions of views, opinions have been put through the newspapers on the proposed TOR for the RCI,” he said, adding that they come not only from BN but also from the opposition and NGOs.
