Police summons SAPP leaders over Sabah Merdeka 49


KOTA KINABALU - The Kota Kinabalu City Police have summoned 12 Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) leaders including its President Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee in relation with the party's celebration to commemorate Sabah's 49th Independence Day at Chong Thien Vun City Park, here, on Aug 31.

Yong and SAPP Advisor who is also former Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Mohd Noor Mansoor, Deputy President cum Sepanggar Member of Parliament Datuk Eric Majimbun, Deputy President cum Likas Assemblyman Datuk Liew Teck Chan and eight others have been ordered to present themselves at the Crime Investigation Division office of the City's Police headquarters, here, today.

SAPP Assistant Secretary-General Datu Suaib Datu Mutalib said, the 12 leaders were ordered to give statements relating to the celebration as under Section 9(5) and 4(2) of the Illegal Assembly Act.

"SAPP would give full cooperation to the police in their investigation. SAPP would also defend its principle on Sabah's people rights for truth and correct historical facts," he said, here.

He said Sabahans commemorate the 49th year Independence Day of Sabah and not the 55th as being carried out all this while prior to SAPP's statement on the correct historical facts.

Suaib said the celebration had attracted thousands of people.

  1. MALAYSIA Day acts as a unifying event for Malaysians in Sabah, Sarawak and the peninsula.The celebration commemorates the very day more than 49 years ago when Sabah, Sarawak and the peninsula became one great nation of Malaysia.
