Many alarm bells but KL never woke up

KOTA KINABALU - "Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib describing the Sulu intrusion into Sabah as a wake up call is already too late because long term, serious damage has already been inflicted on Sabah.

As a matter of fact, many alarm bells were sounded by Sabahans over the decades but KL never woke up until it is too late", said SAPP President Datuk Yong Teck Lee.

SAPP has been pushing for more actions and resources to solve our illegal immigrant problems, to bring long term peace and prosperity to the BIMP-East Asean region and to fulfill Malaysia's security obligations to Sabah as promised in the formation of Malaysia.

Our Memorandum on "Illegal Immigrants: Mother of All Threats" and 14-point proposal, vociferous debates at parliament and cries of Sabahans have all been ignored. Instead, our ministers were irresponsible and negligent in claiming that illegal immigrants are not a threat to Sabah's security.

Now the illegal immigrant crisis has exploded in the face of the Prime Minister with dire consequences. Malaysia is now paying the price of past negligence and mistakes in national policies.

We also call on the government, especially FELDA in Lahad Datu, to stop its land grabs that have angered many local villagers with long terms security implications. This land loss is compounded by FELDA's breach of duty to allocate land to settlers. For instance, out of the 57 FELDA Sahabat land schemes of 300,000 acres, only 3 schemes were allocated to settlers and the balance 54 schemes (95%) were swallowed up by FELDA Global as a lucrative business. This has been a very sore point among villagers.

Adding to the villagers' worries is that the Eastern Security Command might result in more land loss. If indeed land is to be allocated for the Eastern Command, then the FELDA land bank is the most obvious choice.

Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib's statement that villagers (war evacuees) must prove land ownership before the villagers are allowed to return home will cause distress to those local villagers living on kampong reserves and kampong adat without land titles like NTs. Let the government be warned that if it (the government) cannot win over the hearts and minds of local villagers, then military strengths alone cannot bring long term peace to Sabah.

  1. This is not the time to make the situation more worst. Our Government is trying hard to make sure we are back to the normal situation.

    6. I thought you were Sabah CM before. You took the position knowing very well how ineffective you would be as Sabah CM then.

Now you want to be given an opportunity as CM if SAPP win in the PRU13. Are you sure you can do it?

Yong, anyone can talk, like me. To govern is another matter.

It is much easier if you can just concentrate managing your father's oil palm plantation in Lahad Datu, than governing a state like Sabah. By the way, how many illegals were working as cheap laborers in your plantation then?

It is even much easier if you can just continue as Kapitan Sabah Chinese. Are you still the Kapitan Cina?

But, governing is definitely not your forte.

Your student day in London as an activist to take Sabah out from Malaysia was over.
