Relieved with the relief

THE smiles on their faces says it all; tragically made “war refugees” in their own land, hundreds of people who were forced to evacuate or flee their homes in the wake of the war on the Sulu raiders, found that there were those who cared and came to their aid with food supplies and other daily necessities.

People from Tanduo, Tanjung Batu and Tanjung Labian, the three most “hot spots” following the siege of Tanduo by Sulu raiders had been forced to flee their houses from the raiders. Others in nearby villages were told to move to safer ground as security forces pursued the fleeing raiders.

They were houses at Dewan Embara Budi and Fajar, both in the Felda Sahabat area.

Apart from food aid by the National Security Council, Sabah Progressive Party, led by its president Datuk Yong Teck Lee also donated foodstuffs, in particular milk powder.

In all it was estimated that some 4,500 people had been affected by the stand-off.
