Sabah RCI extended by another six months
Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants in Sabah will be extended for six months from March 21.
According to a statement by RCI secretary, Datuk Saripuddin Kassim, it aims to complete the inquiry and report preparations.
He said the Yang Dipertuan Agong has consented to the extension and the investigation period is from 21 March to 20 September 2013.
Saripuddin said it is in line with the provisions of Section 5 of the Commission of Inquiry Act 1950 (Act 119).
At first, the RCI hearing should be resumed on March 5 but it was postponed to March 18.

ReplyDeleteIts gonna be no end for extending.
ReplyDeleteThe past could catch up with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim soon, with even Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan saying he should be subpoenaed by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigration in Sabah.
ReplyDeleteThe Bersih co-chairperson declared that the RCI must subpoena all those who knew or were involved in "Project IC" in Sabah. When asked at a press conference whether this should include Anwar, who was Deputy Prime Minister in the 1990s, Ambiga replied: "Why not?"
ReplyDeleteOver the recent weeks, the RCI has heard testimonies from witnesses on how MyKads were allegedly given to illegal immigrants with no proper documentation.
ReplyDeleteThe net is expected to spread wider, with questions now being asked of Anwar's own role at the time.
ReplyDeleteSabah Umno liaison deputy chief Salleh Said Keruak challenged Anwar to shed some light on the illegal immigrants issue in Sabah.
ReplyDeleteSalleh said that Anwar was duty bound to do so as he was Deputy Prime Minister at that time, and "he was a powerful man and knew what was going on in Sabah".
ReplyDeleteIllegal immigration is arguably the most pressing issue in Sabah today, and frequently blamed for the social, economic and security problems in the state. According to figures made available in Parliament last year, Sabah's population in 1970 was 651,304 and grew to 929,299 a decade later. Two decades later, the state's population had jumped to 2,468,246 by 2000. In 2010, this number was estimated to have grown to 3.12 million, with foreigners allegedly making up a sizeable 27 per cent or 889,799 of the population.
ReplyDeleteThe Prime Minister has therefore presented to the people of Sabah the tools to identify the extent and nature of the problem, as well as the means to correct it.
ReplyDeleteSalleh, who is also State Legislative Assembly Speaker, said the people should praise and support Najib for his bold move to set up the RCI.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Parti Bersatu Sabah also wants Anwar to testify at the RCI, with PBS information chief Johnny Mositun saying Anwar was Deputy Prime Minister at the time.
ReplyDeleteIn political terms, Najib has stolen the Opposition's thunder yet again. By showing that he is listening to Sabahans, and by giving them what they have been asking for so many years, he has taken away the Opposition's request and granted it to the people of Sabah.
ReplyDeletePoor Anwar. He must be feeling uneasy, because he may soon have to reveal exactly what happened under his watch in the 1990s. Demanding transparency is easy, living up to it is much more difficult.
ReplyDeletemmg patut ia dilanjutkan, kerana RCI kena dilaksanakan dgn teliti
