Police report lodged against DAP assemblyman
KOTA KINABALU: The hottest news item during the campaigns in the just-over general election was the Sabah Progressive Party purportedly getting RM80 million from the Barisan Nasional.
It was then alleged that SAPP President Datuk Yong Teck Lee was paid off handsomely to split opposition votes. (Melanie (centre) with her husband Alvin (right) at Tuesday’s press conference to denounce vicious slander over social networking)
And according to SAPP Wanita chief, Datuk Melanie Chia, DAP assemblyman for Luyang, Hiew King Cheu was believed to be among the culprits, in spreading what she described as malicious lies.
On Tuesday, Chia (photo) lodged a police report at the Karamunsing police station and followed by one with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
She lamented that this rumour which was spread widely especially in the urban areas, in the coffee shops, through SMSes and the social media such as Facebook, had discredited SAPP President as well as the party and its other candidates.
Chia, the former Luyang assemblywoman, said the allegation also stated that she was given RM5 million and was the only one in the party who had benefited.
In her police report, she also mentioned King Cheu as among those who were overheard by many people in making such malicious allegations against Yong in coffee shops in Foh Sang.
Chia also provided evidence downloaded from the mobile phone and from FB as well as information provided by supporters, to the police.
However, she said she is leaving it to the Police to investigate if Hiew and DAP were the source of the whispering campaign and in the spreading the rumour through their agents.
Chia further said she took the slanderous allegations seriously as it had done damage to her reputation as well as that of Yong.
She also urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to seriously look into such allegation, since it has implicated the Prime Minister cum Chairman of Barisan Nasional (BN) of corrupt practice, if such allegation is true.
Chia thus hoped the police will investigate if the allegations are offences under Section 499 of the Penal Code for Defamation, as well as Sections 211 and 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
She claimed that a post mortem conducted by the party subsequently also identified this as part of the significant contributing factor to SAPP’s been wiped out in the said election, as many thought it was true.

Dap and Hiew should be punished for defamation. police should take serious action against these culprits
ReplyDeleteSABAHANS LOOK AT IT AS ANOTHER MALAYAN DIRTY TACTIC TO TAKEOVER SABAH.
ReplyDeleteThe political history of Sabah like Sarawak has been a long series of betrayal starting with fake self serving "leaders" collaboration with the British and Malayan regimes to sell our countries into Malaysia.
SAPP is regarded with some suspicions because it was with BN and did not do anything for Sabahans. It's major crime was to defect to UMNO and destroying the Sabah united front.
However SAPP after experiencing the real nature of UMNO split with it.
Its Sabah autonomy campaign reflected the sentiments of the people for self-determination but whether it was just exploiting this aspiration we can't yet be clear.
It could not re-create the victory of PBS which government in the 1985 elections exploiting the people desire for change. But then it betrayed the people by selling out to BN.
Until we can have a real patriotic party prepared to fight and never surrender, we will be forever subject to more betrayals.
Instead of waiting we must see how we can create such a party to free us from the colonial chains of Malaya.
"Until we can have a real patriotic party prepared to fight and never surrender, ..." - SAPP is such a Party, but alas! was not able to convince Sabahans that it is so. Sad!
DeleteProceed with defamation suit against hiew the liar for RM80 million lie. RM5 million one is another lie but created by DAP fellows in KL in fb.
